This is how I've been rolling lately. Better late than never, I say. Hey, I could be writing my end of year post for 2012 in 2014, so I'm ahead of that curve, right?
2012 was a year of triumph, but much loss. My uncle Geoff and our long distance family cat, Mo, among the personal losses, as well as our country's loss of 26 innocent lives at Sandy Hook Elementary in CT.
While we ended the year with such tragedy, it wasn't all bad.
My two rugrats had quite impressive years.
Fuzz, at nearly 2 years 5 months, is well on his way to being potty-trained. His vocabulary amazes me every day. While his pronunciation could use some refining, I'm not about to correct him. Hearing him say "Dats tawible (terrible), I thow him in da dawbage (garbage)!" is a short-lived treat for all of us. He's also hilarious, and knows it. Plus, I'm proud to say I've successfully made him (and his brother) an addict of watching Singing In The Rain. He rounds out his toddlerhood with some awesome screaming fits.
4.5 year-old Shnook had a banner year. He has blown my mind with his skills, but moreso with his drive and motivation to master them. This year he has learned to ride a two-wheeler with no training wheels, read music and play 7 songs on the piano using 9 notes, become quite a swimmer and he's started reading and writing. He shares my love for nerdy teacher songs. We regularly sing the "Fifty Nifty" but we also rely on our old standbys from Uncle Geoff: "M.T.A. song" and "Whale Of A Tale." He remains obsessed with vehicles. Lately, it's concentrated on big ships that have sunk: i.e. The Titanic, The Britannic and the QE 1.
TSA continues to make little tiny chips that I don't understand which are used for other things I don't understand, but he's extremely happy doing this, so all is well.
As for me, I finished my first draft of my first solo-written screenplay in February and am now slaving over a 4th draft that might kill me. But I'm going to finish that, too. It might even be soon. I'm also going to finish the 5th, 6th, 7th and however many drafts are necessary.
As for New Year's resolutions, I've made a few that I haven't even started yet. I realized this January when I saw everyone else making resolutions that the best way to keep a New Year's resolution is not to make it at New Years.
A few months ago I committed to exercising every day for 30 minutes or more. With a day skipped every 10 days to 2 weeks, I have stuck to it and have lost over 6 inches off my body so far. At least I had one positive loss in 2012!
Quite frankly, while of course I'm overjoyed that my body is very slowly shaping up, I'm definitely more motivated by how much better I feel physically and mentally due to exercise. I've always been interested in fitness and over the years I've gone through phases of being really fit and then not. This time, I'm planning for the long haul because really, 3o minutes a day is not too much to ask of myself.
I'm not yet at the point where exercise is just like brushing my teeth, meaning, it's a non-negotiable and it's not a struggle to do it. That's where I want to be, and I know others who are there, or at least make it look like they are.
Anyway, as always, my goal is to write here more often. Maybe if I say that next month it will really happen.
Love, Health, and Happiness in 2013 to all.
